If your swing is all over the place, your ball will go all over the place…
Which means it’s impossible to make any plans or strategies on how you’ll play the course.
Now, you might be wondering why consistency is such a big problem.
After all, if you practice 3 or 4 times a week, shouldn’t you quickly clear up any issues you may have had with making consistent swings?
Well… it would if golfers weren’t putting so much pressure on their bodies to perform!
Let me explain…
Most golfers are doing all sorts of weird stuff with their balance, posture, and position that is very taxing on joints and muscles.
They’re trying to “force” their bodies into positions which just don’t sit naturally.
To do this, you need to expend a LOT of energy. Even world class athletes can’t do it forever.
The thing about golf is it’s a LONG game. 18 holes can often take the better part of a day (or at least an afternoon if you’re moving fast.)
The average game has about 90 swings in it for the amateur player. Even if say 30 of those are putts, that still leaves 60 swings.
Now, that’s 60 swings you have to lift the club over your head, bring it down fast, and hit the ball dead in the sweet spot.
Now, that may not SOUND like much…
But I guarantee after ten swings or so, your body gets a little tired.
Now, that wouldn’t be a problem…
IF you weren’t working so darn hard to keep your body in a weird shape.
IF you want to see this principle in action, just raise your arms straight over your head, as far as you can go.
Now, hold it there for as long as you can.
When your arms sag and even the tiniest bit, you know your muscles are getting tired.
Now, transfer that half an inch sag to your golf swing…
It makes a BIG difference to your” positions” right?
So as far as I see it, you have two options to ensure consistency.
The first is to become a super human athlete who never tires even the tiniest bit over 18 holes of golf (and good luck, because even the pros can’t do that…)
Find a swing that is so effortless, even when you’re sore, tired, and stiff, you have a beautiful drive, chip, or putt every time.
Now, unfortunately, I can’t help you with the first one…
But I can help you with the second.
